You can see the nice circular scrape of bare metal that the kneading paddle was making on it's third use! You are correct... that is yummy Teflon coating from the pan being scraped into my dough. You can bet I won't be eating that loaf... You can also hear the lovely sounds of metal on metal contact that will be added to your kitchen ambiance with this machine. I am willing to bet that the new "collapsible paddle" technology is the reason behind this poor performance. There is a hinge on the bottom of the paddle that enables it to fold down. This hinge introduces some wobble not seen on a regular kneading paddle. And you know what happens when poor quality products wobble... they collide. So even if it doesn't scrape on the first use as mine did, it will probably start to scrape after some use (hopefully not before your amazon return window expires). I hated digging the paddle out of the bottom. My second one was a tragic mistake by the company. It had an inherent flaw - bread stuck to the pan. Even after they replaced the pan for free - the second pan was even worse. I gave up making bread ... because even when I finally got the bread out of the pan, I still had to dig the paddle out of the bottom. I really loved my Sunbeam 5891 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker, so much so that I actually recently purchased one for my daughter. The Breadman BK1050S 2-Pound Professional Bread Maker with Collapsible Kneading Paddles and Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser (nice name) impressed me with its apparent simplicity and ease of use. It only took me a few minutes of browsing through the manual, a few more minutes for picking a favorite recipe and well... some time to gather the required ingredients and bread was baking inside the machine. Well, the bread maker needs to run through a empty cycle first to burn off 'manufacturing oils' but that happened while we were out shopping. Knowing what I know now, I would probably buy this bread maker if I didn't have one and I could afford it.
